This course will be particularly suitable if you wish to prepare for a career in the IT and computing industries, and related areas.

It will appeal to you if you want a programme of study that is intellectually challenging and want also to carry out practical work and be creative.

The units we deliver are based on current skills shortages, discussions with employers and guidance from universities, ensuring that our students have the best possible chance of successful progression into their chosen career, the best apprenticeships or higher education.

    Entry Requirements

    Grade 4 in at least four GCSEs / BTECs.

    A grade 3 in English Language and Maths is essential.


    Single block year 1 units:

    • Unit 1: Communication Skills

    • Unit 2: Computer Systems

    • Unit 29: Installing and Upgrading Software

    Double block year 1 units

    • Unit 16: Procedural Programming

    • Unit 14: Event Driven Programming

    • Unit 15: Object Orientated Programming

    • plus the units covered in the single block

    Single block year 2 units:

    • Unit 8: e-Commerce

    • Unit 3: Information Systems

    • Unit 12: Technical Support

    Double block year 2 units:

    • Unit 28: Website Production

    • Unit 20: Client Side customisation of Webpages

    • Unit 27: Web Server Scripting

    • plus the units covered in the single block.

    You can also swap from the single to the double block at the end of the first year, giving you the equivalent of 1.5 A Levels at the end of 2 years.


      Many former students have gone on to study IT at university or are now working in IT / Computing careers. A growing number of apprenticeships are also available and former students have had great success in achieving sought-after placements in a range of organisations.
