This is a one year course which has been designed for learners who are working in the community or are looking to do so.

It is particularly advantageous for those wishing to join a uniformed organisation and focuses on skills and knowledge that would be beneficial such as teamwork, communications and leadership.

You will become aware of the roles, responsibilities and purpose of different uniformed organisations.

The course is equivalent to one GCSE at grade C and can lead on to an advanced Level 3 BTEC Diploma in Uniformed Public Services.

Assessment

Assignments and practical assessments individually and in groups.

A GCSE D/E grade profile or evidence of potential.

Content

Unit 1 Teamwork and Communication Skills. This unit has three parts. Part one includes learning about the importance of teamwork and gives students practice in teamwork skills and teamwork activities. Part two looks at communication skills and the methods of instruction used in uniformed organisations. It teaches students how to pass on their own skills to others in a structured format. Part three is about the interpersonal communication skills that are used in uniformed organisations. Students get to practice these skills which include the use of radio communications in a uniformed organisation scenario.

Unit 2 Employment skills in Uniformed Organisations. This unit has two parts. Part one includes researching and learning about the different purpose, roles and responsibilities of different uniformed organisations to give an overview of the many employment opportunities available. Part two allows students to select roles they are interested to learn about in more detail and focuses on the conditions of service for those specific roles.

Outcome/Progression

It is hoped that you will continue with your education by progressing to a BTEC Level 3 course.
