An art and design student at East Norfolk Sixth Form College has secured a once in a lifetime opportunity at a Dutch Design Academy.

Brogen Berwick was one of 650 students from across the World interviewed for just 100 places at the prestigious Eindhoven Design Academy.

As part of the interview process, Brogen was invited to Eindhoven in March to present a showcase of her work to two assessors and ten other interviewees. After a nervous wait, she heard the fantastic news on 13th April that she had been offered an unconditional place to study there from September 2018.

Brogen said, “I was at work when I found out that I had got a place and I just cried. I’m absolutely thrilled to have such a fantastic opportunity. My family and teachers, who have been incredibly supportive, are pleased that my hard work and determination has paid off.”

The course at Eindhoven will take four years to complete and Brogen’s career aspiration at this time is to work in a big creative design studio. Her final graduation show is tied in with the annual Dutch Design Week and many students get their big break from there.

Brogen has spent the last 3 years at EN studying A level Textiles and 3D Design before undertaking a Level 4 Foundation in Art and Design. Once her studies have finished at the end of May, Brogen will be working all the hours she can to help fund her studies.

Brogen added: “One of the things I’m most passionate about is working with sustainable materials to come up with designs that make a real difference to peoples everyday lives.  I also want to look at methods of design and materials that address the issue of plastic waste which is of huge importance at the moment.”

Funding for her studies in the Netherlands are limited and Brogen hopes that there might be companies who share her passion for sustainable design and helping the environment that might be willing to help her through sponsorship or other funding. Anyone interested in supporting Brogen and her studies is encouraged to contact her at EN by emailing Jon Dack, Schools Liaison, Marketing and Admissions Manager
