Three EN students Ellen Clough, Michelle Huggins and Francesca Rumsby enjoyed great success at the Federation of Artistic Roller Skating dance and free dance Championships at Haywards Heath.

Not only had the trio been preparing and training all year for the event, for up to 8 hours a week, they had also been getting ready for and sitting their AS exams.

The three girls are trained by coach, Carla Smith, at the Waveney Roller Skating Club at Ormiston Denes High School, Lowestoft, where the three disciplines of Artistic Freestyle, Figures and Dance is taught.

Ellen has been skating for 8 years and skates at Bronze level dance with this being her 3rd time at Championships; Michelle, for 10 years and is now at Intersilver level and was her 9th time at Championships, and Francesca, for 4 years, skating at Preliminary level and her 1st time at the British Championships. All three are working towards more dance tests at the end of the year to get to a higher standard.

At the Championships weekend, they performed their disciplined solo dances and their expressive individual Freedance programs for which they chose the music and designed their dresses themselves.

They certainly did themselves, their families and the Waveney RSC proud at the competition and they are now among the top skaters of their age group in the UK with Francesca placing 17th in the Youth Ladies Solo Dance Championships, Ellen placing 7th in the Junior Ladies Solo Dance Championships and Michelle placing 4th in the Junior Ladies Solo Dance Championships - a fabulous achievement.

They were also joined by fellow skater Amy Meadows who attends Lowestoft College studying a beauty course who also skated fantastically.

Waveney Roller Skating Club teaches boy/men and girls/ladies basic grades on a Saturday morning from 10am. Further details available from Carla Smith on 07879 414689 or koalasmith@hotmail.com.
