A member of Richard Alston Dance Company’s animateur team, Laura Erwin, came to East Norfolk Sixth Form College to lead a workshop for EN’s Dance students on 2nd February 2016.

Students were led through a technical warm up and taught extracts from some of Alston’s renowned word, ‘Brisk Singing’ and ‘Nomadic’. The students went to see the company perform at the Theatre Royal later in the week and were wowed by the company’s performance of four different works. Laura’s energy was infectious and she delivered an excellent workshop that inspired, challenged and motivated all participants.

Arina Beinarovica, a second year dance student, said “It was great to experience how Richard Alston uses music as his starting point for his choreography. I love choreography and it was great to work in such a clearly defined style”. Abi Cresswell, another second year student added: “the fast pace of the workshop and the complexity of the phrases taught were great in preparing me for university auditions”.

Imogen Hiseman, a first year dance student, commented that she found the professional repertoire “challenging but great fun. It was brilliant to watch the show and see the professional dancers performing what we had been taught by Laura in our workshop”.
