EN and Peterhouse Primary are ‘On the Ball’ with new anthem

East Norfolk Sixth Form College and pupils at Peterhouse C of E Primary Academy, Gorleston have celebrated Norwich City FC’s promotion to the Premier League with their new take on the traditional ‘On the Ball’ anthem.

The idea was devised by City fan and Governor at Peterhouse, Stuart King, who wanted to mark the Canaries stunning return to top flight football by bringing together the old version of the historic song with a new twist. Stuart composed a new introductory verse and devised new lyrics and with the help of singers from the College and the Peterhouse choir, the new ‘On the Ball’ was born.

EN tutor Carl Simmonds helped bring Stuart’s vision to life by recording the melody and the students singing and then set the whole piece to a celebratory video. The finished version is a true celebration of all things Norwich City and an affectionate tribute to the oldest football anthem in existence.

Mr King said: “It’s been a privilege and honour to work in this collaboration with East Norfolk Smith Form College and Peterhouse DNEAT Church of England Primary Academy. To be involved in this musical project I’ve been in seventh heaven. Our beloved football club is in a great place right now and we all hope our loyal supporters will like it. Perhaps the club will play it as we approach each home kick off! All the best City!!

Ryan Freeman, Headteacher at Peterhouse C of E Primary Academy, said; “We are thrilled to be part of this project, celebrating the proud history of our local football club. Our children have enjoyed the opportunity and are greatly anticipating the public response.”

EN Principal, Dr Catherine Richards, said; “This has been a fantastic collaboration with one of our local primary academies. The end result is great, and the students and staff involved have had fun producing this new version of the historic anthem. I hope the Norwich City fans enjoy it and also share the song as widely as possible and maybe this new version will take off at Carrow Road. “
