Hot on the heels of her success at an exhibition in Qatar earlier in the year, Androulla Michael, teacher of art and photography at EN has won the Brussels Airlines 'LIKES ART' Award at the Accessible Art Fair in New York.

Androulla was chosen to represent East Norfolk at the event, held at the iconic National Arts Club in Gramercy Park. The art fair is a unique event where 60 artists from across the globe were selected by an illustrious jury of international art advisors and experts from Sotheby’s, Gagosian Galleries, Artnet, Christies Collectrium and Tumblr.

Androulla's piece is part of the series My Diary: #Selfie of a Nobody (365 days) 2015. This is an ongoing visual diary Androulla started 10 years ago, which challenges the phenomenon of the selfie by subverting it as a means of celebrating social acceptance.

Androulla Michael said "I feel honoured to have been selected to represent the college and my work at Accessible Art Fair New York amongst all the talented and diverse artists. This has truly been an enriching experience which I'm excited to embed in my teaching and share with students and members of staff.”

From January 2017, Brussels Airlines will exhibit the winning piece at The Loft, the carriers award-winning, flagship premium lounge in Pier A at Brussels Airport.

Androulla said "I am so pleased and honoured to accept The Brussels Airlines 'LIKES ART' Award. A very special thank you to Stephanie Manasseh (founder of Accessible Art Fair), Maria Ohanian-Vanvlodrop (director of MvVOART), Isaac Aden (guest artist and curator) and their wonderful team, Christophe Allard (Director of North America Brussels Airlines) and Marc Calcoen (Consular General of Belgium) for hosting and presenting the award. Also not forgetting a big thank you to all who voted for my piece, including East Norfolk Sixth Form College, Lucy Connell and Lydia Connell for believing in me. I’m looking forward to working with everybody on future projects.”

Maria van Vlodrop, President of art venture company MvVO and director or Accessible Art Fair said: "Androulla Michael’s work was selected by a New York panel of art experts so we are thrilled to have her as one of our participating artists. We also congratulate Androulla for winning the Brussels Likes Art Award contest. Well done!!"

Stephanie Manasseh, founder and curator of Accessible Art Fair said: "I had the pleasure of meeting Androulla Michael at a conference in March. I told her about the Accessible Art Fair and now she is the winner of the Brussels Airlines Likes Art Awards! We are so pleased with her win and look forward to collaborating again in the future."
