East Norfolk BTEC National Sport students enjoyed a highly informative session on the Premier League’s Elite Player Performance Programme (EPPP) scheme by former Norwich City FC player and current youth team coach Adrian Forbes.

The EPPP was introduced only a few years ago as part of an overhaul of how professional football clubs develop their players and is just one of the many topics studied on the BTEC National in Sport qualification.

Course tutor Chris Duffy said “We are very fortunate to have a link with Norwich City Football Club and greatly appreciate Adrian giving up his time to educate our students on this programme. As a person who developed as a player in the Norwich City academy and is now employed by them we couldn’t have asked for a better person to come in.”

BTEC student Sophie Hall said “I found it very interesting listening to Adrian talk about the EPPP and it’s made me more aware of what happens behind the scenes when developing young players. I learnt that the requirements of being a Category one academy, which is the highest status an academy can have, and it made me realise how committed the staff are to developing players instead of just buying them.”

Chris Duffy added: “The students will be able to use the information Adrian gave them to help with their assignments and help them identify potential careers they may wish to pursue when they finish at EN”.
