Students at East Norfolk Sixth Form College are celebrating another brilliant set of A level results with an overall pass rate of 99% and 75% of students receiving A*- C grades.

Although A levels are getting tougher, students have performed even higher than last year.  This is an outstanding achievement and reaffirms the findings of EN’s recent Ofsted inspection. Inspectors highlighted the high standards of teaching, learning and assessment at the College and recognised the broad curriculum that is responsive to local needs, regional priorities and the ambitions of students.

23 subjects achieved a 100% pass rate that highlights just how well students achieve at A level under the guidance of the college’s fantastic teachers. Science and mathematics remain particularly strong, with 70% of students achieving A* or A grades in Further Maths and 1 in 3 of Biology students obtaining A*/A grades. In fact, the number of top grades across all science subjects has increased this year.

East Norfolk Sixth Form College Principal, Dr Catherine Richards, said: “I am absolutely thrilled. Our students have once again achieved some fantastic results, which is recognition for their hard work and the dedication of our highly skilled staff.

“Five students have been offered places at Cambridge and Oxford to study subjects ranging from Geography, Natural Sciences to Modern Foreign Languages. Some will be leaving EN to study Medicine, Veterinary Science and attending prestigious Russell Group universities.  Many others are leaving us to gain employment and apprenticeships having achieved impressive grades. I am very proud indeed and would like to congratulate all our students and staff.”

“All of our students are encouraged from the moment they start with us to see themselves as achieving at the highest level, including going onto the most competitive universities. We do expect a lot from our students because our teachers stretch and challenge them to achieve the very best results. We are proud of all our students, especially those who have worked really hard to achieve results above their forecast grades.”

Last year, the College introduced a Level 4 Foundation Diploma in Art, which enables students to stay on for an additional year and hone their particular skills before pursuing their place at university or a career. The subject achieved 100% pass rate in its first set of results with many students achieving Merit or Distinction.

Dr Richards added: “This year’s results are the icing on the cake of a very positive period for the College. We had our excellent Ofsted inspection at the end of 2016. This was followed by the announcement by the Educational Skills Funding Agency (ESFA) that EN is a strong college for quality and finances, and can therefore remain independent of any mergers or pursue academisation. We are now looking forward to the next exciting phase in the College’s future with academy status which will further strengthen EN’s performance for the benefit of future generations of students and our wider community.”
