Following last year’s record breaking 10 offers for students to study at Oxford and Cambridge, staff and students at EN are celebrating as the record has been broken once again.

11 students have been offered places at Cambridge and Oxford Universities for September 2020, to read subjects including medicine, veterinary science, archaeology, philosophy, economics, computer science, geography and many more.

Principal Dr Catherine Richards said: “This is an amazing achievement by our students and fantastic news for the college and the local community. We are proud of all of our students whether they choose to progress to HE, apprenticeships or employment, but to have 11 students with offers for Oxford and Cambridge this year is something that we should all celebrate. It also sends out a very strong message to prospective students and their parents, that when it comes to HE success and progression, East Norfolk has a track record that is unrivalled locally and is the best choice for students with aspirations to study at the best universities.”

EN students are supported by a programme, specifically designed to stretch and challenge gifted and talented students and is continuing to reap rewards. The Extend Programme offers specialist advice and support for competitive UCAS applications for courses at Oxbridge and other courses such as Medicine, Dentistry and Veterinary Science. The Extend Programme supports peer mentoring and Year 13 students will be visiting Year 12 tutorials to offer support and guidance with making competitive applications.

EN has always had an extremely strong track record of getting high numbers of students into university and offers extensive support to all students, encouraging them to make applications through the UCAS system. The College is extremely proud of all the students receiving offers for Russell Group universities but also proud of the fact that extensive support is available to all students and progression rates to university overall.

Our students also enter national competitions and awards such as the Youth STEMM Awards, Chemistry and Biology Olympiads and UKMT Senior Maths Challenge. As a result, our students have won awards and prizes that help them to stand out with their university applications in what can be a very competitive field.

Dr Richards added, “To help prepare our students for the process of applying to some very prestigious and competitive institutions, we support them at every step of the way. This specialist support ensures that applicants are really well prepared for the rigorous interview process.”
