1.

You (parent(s)/carer(s)) are currently in receipt of one of the following benefits:

  • Income Support
  • Income-based Job Seeker’s Allowance
  • Income-based Employment and Support Allowance (ESA)
  • Universal Credit
  • Guaranteed Element of State Pension Credit
  • Support under part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999

Letter/email confirming entitlement to benefits from one of the following:

  • Job Centre Plus 
  • Department for Work and Pensions 
  • Your Local Authority

If this evidence is older than 3 months, please also provide a bank statement which shows a payment of each benefit going in to your parent’s/carer’s bank account within the last 3 months

2. Child Tax Credit with a gross annual household income of less than £20,000

A full copy of HRMC Tax Credit Award for the period 6 April 2019 to 5 April 2020 showing 2018/19 income


3. Th student is a young carer and does not fall into one of the above two groups Letter/email from relevant Local Authority, local carers organisation or GP

Students from households with a gross annual income (inclusive of any benefits/tax credits) of less than £16,190, may be awarded full support from the Discretionary Bursary Fund. Students from households where the gross annual income is between £16,191 and £20,000 will receive funding at a lower rate.

NB: In exceptional circumstances, if the household in not in receipt of tax credits, other proof of income related benefits, current bank or building society statements, wage slips’, self-assessment tax form and other documents will be considered.
